Haven Mountain Sanctuary is a rescue and respite facility for horses and other equines in need.
Our mission is to intervene in situations of inhumane treatment or cruelty toward horses and other equines. To provide humane treatment for the animals in its care. And to seek to disrupt the environment that leads to these conditions.
An inhumane and hidden reality for horses
Far too often horses fall victim to terrible circumstances. Sometimes an animal is surrendered or abandoned for whatever reason, and they end up in a lot where they are given food and water, and they are tagged for extermination.
For the gravely sick, the injured, and for those animals who have suffered such mistreatment that they pose a threat to humans as well as other horses, putting them down is sometimes the most humane option.
But there is hope…
Organizations like Haven Mountain step in and break this cycle of abandonment, mistreatment, and death. We understand that most of these animals can be nursed back to health, most of these animals can learn to trust again; most of these animals can be saved.
